The Shaggy Leather Swivel Chair certainly captured my eyes and would make a statement piece in any room. I love this piece and it certainly got a lot of attention in High Point. The Ngala Trading Co. was launched in 2016 by founding partners Lawson Ricketts and Nick Geimer to promote African-designed and manufactured luxury lighting and curated home décor products.  Having opened and run...

Here is a little background of where it all started. I had a well-established Design and furniture restoration business in the UK but in 2012 my husband got an opportunity to move with his work to New York. My husband and I used to travel a lot when we were younger both having lived in Spain, the Canary Islands and The Balearic Islands. My husband even did a spell in the middle east when he...

You know I’m a lover of Fabric’s and Wallpaper. For me matching patterns is so much fun but may seem a little daunting. There are a few simple rules you can follow to achieve that magazine look.
Rule 1: Start with a color. If you have a multicolored pattern that you have fallen in love with pull one of the colors from your selected pattern. Patterns can bring elements of interest to a design. It offers a possibility for creating a space that will suit a client’s personality and visually can make the room look interesting, sophisticated and chic.

Rule 2: You’ve probably heard of the...

Over the past few months I have had clients requesting animal prints which inspired me to write this blog. After a few years of grey tones what I am seeing more and more is a resurgence of contrast with clients typically looking for fabrics to add a pop of pattern to an otherwise plain space. Patterns don’t have to be ‘in your face’ to make an impact in a room. For example you could add a ‘hint of print’ (which is now going to be my new saying #hintofprint) on a chair, hide rug or scattered cushions.
In past decades animal print was considered a little ‘gaudy’ due to...

If your looking to make a bold statement and feeling brave choose a dominant print . If you are concerned about a large print looking too much or being over-powering you can break it up using molding or a chair rail. I often get clients looking at paint options for their powder room and I always steer them in the direction wallpaper as an option to transform this space and gain a little incremental confidence with wall paper. It can be a dramatic way to give your powder room a punch. The Hornbeam print is inspired by Farrow and Ball’s Dorset (England) roots and time spent in the nearby...

You have heard that saying ‘first impression last’ or ‘curb appeal’. Well,  this is why the front door shouldn’t be overlooked, when it comes to making a statement about your home and is why I think it is a really important feature. People notice! And when I say people it could be a friend or family members waiting to come in to your home or a complete stranger driving past. Think...

The Pantone color institute has been hugely important in influencing all aspects of color in design for years. For 2019 the Pantone Color Institute has chosen Pantone 16-1546, also known as living coral.

In celebration of the announcement Nicola Jane Interiors presents Farrow & Ball color from the Archive collection 9811.

One of my favorite combination is Coral and Turquoise, this Jellyfish bloom from Thibaut looks magnificent in a powder Room. This color combination can certainly brighten your day. Whist you may think the combination of turquoise and coral is a little youthful it speaks a...

This is the newest addition to our house and now the official mascot of Nicola Jane interiors. This is little Dottie our new toy cockapoo. Dottie is an Old traditional English name meaning gift of god. It seems so fitting given the recent loss of Neville our English schnauzer.

Little Dottie has made our house and home again and The Shoppes at Lafayette is dog friendly, so she spends half the...

I am excited to announce a new partnership with Farrow and Ball which is a match made in heaven. Before I entered the world of interior design I used to be a professional furniture restorer back in England and have used Farrow and Ball as the cornerstone for most of my work since 2005 so it is with great pride that I can bring a slice of UK quality craftsmanship to the NJ area. I have just ordered the Farrow and ball paint and wall paper and have some gorgeous ideas for a...

Retro is Back

In an age of technology where sleek lines rule and everything has value and function, like smart fridges and voice activated remotes, it warms my heart to see the design industry embrace what once was.

Of course fashion and style is a never ending merry go round but I am loving the juxtaposition of old coupled with new - the contrast of pieces with lines taken from the 1950’s or 60’s coupled with current designs, colors and fabrics.

Following a chance breakfast meeting with the associate editor of Design New Jersey Magazine at High Point earlier this year, I was asked to style spot for a...

I am really excited to let you all know that I am opening a new design studio in the charming Lafayette Village Historic District. I happened upon the Olde Lafayette Village by chance some 3 years ago when we moved to Sparta in NJ – which is a must see by the way. My husband was all for moving south until we viewed some houses and sat and contemplated where we would lay some roots and raise our family (whilst sipping a summer cocktail outside of St Moritz overlooking the beautiful lake Mohawk). My husband’s exact words were “this place feels like I am on vacation” and from that...

The approach to the house and the front door is one of the most important parts of my holiday decor. When family and friends gather I want them to feel festive as soon as they pull up at the house…It starts with as many soft white lights as I can muster across the front. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…..   With Thanksgiving in the rear view mirror it is time to turn my attention to the next Christmas Inspiration Series. Re-upholstering is often an option that home owners overlook. They immediately look to buy new when that old sofa has seen better days. And lets be honest – the major furniture retailers make it difficult for us to say know with their Sunday opening hours, free design and delivery service and perfectly staged stores. But over the years I have reupholstered many pieces in my home and for clients. I recently redesigned the communal sitting areas in a home for the elderly. IT was a turn of the century building with many original pieces but as you can imagine – over the years had seen a...
See Before & After
There is nothing quite as satisfying as transforming a find. I stumbled upon a piece almost identical to this almost a year ago in an antique dealers. I immediately fell in love with the shape as it reminded me of a piece from 'Beauty and the Beast' (I get inspiration from all sorts of places).     Sadly, having already paid for the item, I couldn't fit it In the car and when I returned to collect it the following day there was a mix up and the piece had been sold. It was 6 months later when my husband surprised me with an almost identical piece.   I am not sure on the original...

Molding

I absolutely love molding! There – I admitted it. It can transform a room from plain and dated to something far-more grand. And done properly you can make your own look. Coming from England I lived in a number of Victorian houses that had the traditional large base boards like the picture below (we call them skirting boards in England). When I moved to the USA I started to look for something...
