Jo Malone Inspired Powder Room
12/3/2017
My inspiration for this powder room was ‘Jo Malone’ - a London based perfume company. Jo Malone reminds me of Shopping trips to London, lunch in Covent Garden and family Christmas visits. Guaranteed that there is always a very well presented Jo Malone box with exquisite ribbon under our tree every year. The smells are to die for and the packaging screams ‘spoil yourself!’
I searched high and low for wide striped black and cream wall paper and opted for this one by Norwall. My team at Mohawk painters did an awesome job of papering and were in and out. When the paper first went up I was momentarily concerned as it is an unusually shaped, closed off room and the stripes made you feel quite disorientated. With the addition of this ornate over sized mirror from Houzz, it really broke up the stripes and gave the room even more depth. I got really lucky with the mirror - not only is it a bargain for the size but it could not have been an inch bigger without being too big to fit. We had to line each wall with cardboard so as not to mark the new wallpaper.
I am a huge fan of French Provincial and anything a little ornate. I picked this gem of a vanity and tied in some silver fixtures from Wayfair.
My team added some picture molding and custom, extra deep baseboards (10” and my plan is to go even bigger next time!) for that elegant Victorian period feel that I so miss, from houses we lived in back in England. We added some custom crown and ceiling trim from Blue Ridge Lumber and finished it off with some blingy crystal lighting from Home Depot.
