Set the tone at the front door

You have heard that saying ‘first impression last’ or ‘curb appeal’. Well,  this is why the front door shouldn’t be overlooked, when it comes to making a statement about your home and is why I think it is a really important feature. People notice! And when I say people it could be a friend or family members waiting to come in to your home or a complete stranger driving past. Think about that for a minute. Think about that house that you have driven past or seen on realtor.com - it’s your dream home. Somewhere you want to spend the rest of your life. Yet - you have never been inside. It’s the aesthetics of the house and I bet, perhaps even subconsciously the front door played its part.

Let’s get to it - they are also functional and play a key role in insulating the ‘envelope’ of your home. But they aren’t cheap. At least not the good ones. But there are ways you can transform your front door on a budget, give a little face lift and also a completely different feel without breaking the bank.

Here are my favorite Farrow and Ball front door colors to think about this spring.

Pitch Black No.256

When choosing a color for your door stand back and look at your surroundings. Taking note of the style of the door, along with the trim and siding that frame it. You may want to go bold as an extension of your personality but think about that color in each season. Will that shade of blue look great in the better daylight months but not so great in winter for example.

Charlotte's Locks No.268

Have fun and for less then $100 - you can change it again when color trends shift or your mood changes. There are some colors more regal or stately that are timeless and will never go out of fashion - blacks and greens are a great example.
